     I have tried many art mediums: oils, watercolor, pencil drawings, but found my true love when I started working in pastels.  I love the chromatic brilliance, versatility and
permanence of pastel.  Pastels produce multi-layered effects which help create the light, form and "life" of the painting. 
     My best motivation for subject matter comes from the outdoors.  Living in Redding is the perfect place for what I do.  I go with my husband when he fishes so I can hike and take photos of the lakes, streams, and surrounding landscapes.  I hike with friends in Lassen Park , Whiskeytown, and many other beautiful locations in the north state.  I always take my camera so I can try and capture what I see. 
     I work mostly at home with my photos.  I find it difficult to take my pastels on my outings.  Sometimes I do watercolor sketches to get a feel for the area.  I strive to give the viewer a complete sensory experience of place, season, and time of day.  My representation is my way of saying "You should have seen what I saw."
